About this course

The Revit for Interior Design training course teaches Revit the way an interior designer works through a project. You start with an existing building shell, then plan the space with partitions, doors and glazing, and build up the interior layer by layer: floor finishes, materials, ceilings and lighting, loose furniture and built-in joinery. On the final day you turn the model into a working interior drawing set – room finish plans, reflected ceiling plans, interior elevations, schedules and sheets – plus 3D views for client presentation.

Unlike a general architecture class, the focus is on what happens inside the walls: materials and finishes, ceiling design, furniture and casework, and the documents a fit-out contractor and client actually need. Every participant completes a small fit-out project (an office or residential unit) from start to finish.

Looking for a Revit course in Malaysia? Revit for Interior Design is a 3-day essential-level class in Autodesk Revit, taught in small groups at MTTC College in Petaling Jaya, Selangor – easy to reach from Kuala Lumpur and across the Klang Valley. New classes are added every month. Participants receive an MTTC Certificate of Completion, and companies can arrange HRD Corp claims through MTTC as a registered training provider.

What you'll learn

  • Describe how BIM fits the interior design workflow and how an interior model works with the architect's and MEP models
  • Set up an interior project from a CAD floor plan or a linked architectural model, with levels and an existing shell
  • Model partitions, glazed walls, doors, floor finishes and ceilings, and create and apply your own materials
  • Place, load and edit furniture, lighting and casework families, and build custom joinery with Model In-Place
  • Produce room finish plans, reflected ceiling plans and interior elevations with dimensions, tags and material annotation
  • Create furniture, finish and door schedules, set up sheets and present the design with 3D and rendered views

The interior shell and space planning

  • Brief Introduction on BIM for Interiors – BIM in the interior design workflow, understanding Revit element hierarchy, how interior, architectural and MEP models work together
  • Introduction on Revit – introduction (file types RVT, RFA, RTE and main layout), navigating the mouse, starting a new project from an interior template
  • User Interface – Application Menu, hierarchy of tabs, tools and panels, Options Bar, Project Browser and Properties Palette
