KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) – All public projects worth RM100 million and above are required to use the Building Information Modeling System (BIM) system from 2019, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said the use of BIM would improve the efficiency, productivity and overall quality of the construction process as well as reduce construction costs and avoid design problems in the planning phase.

“BIM enables all parties involved in the project to visualize, coordinate and analyze the physical features and key functions of each element before construction begins.

“It also helps developers achieve the target of completing the building in the prescribed quality and avoiding any change in the contract,” he said in his opening speech at myBIM Center here today.

Fadillah said the government was considering to use BIM to build four public hospitals that needed detailed planning and high costs.
